Code.org: Code.org is a website that can be use to teach students to the skills needed to be successful in the 21st century. In addition to this the site is also great to teach kids k-8th to code by using things they already love, games!!!
From their website Learn the basic concepts of Computer Science with drag and drop programming. This is a game-like, self-directed tutorial starring video lectures by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies. Learn repeat-loops, conditionals, and basic algorithms. Available in 34 languages. http://code.org/ SKETCHUP: Have your students every "lost time" designing a masterpiece when you wanted a quick drawing. Well if you find yourself with a class full of artist then this is the program for you. Skettchup is a 3D program that students can use to design anything they want. From something totally original like a chair, house or sports car to something that already exist. The great thing about Sketchup is that it can fit into any math lesson! Instead of asking a student to find the area of a rectangle on piece of paper, they can do that through sketchup while actually measuring the dimensions of the rectangle. http://www.sketchup.com/
TENMARKS: Tenmarks is a website that was created by Amazon to promote and increase Math instruction in the classroom and outside. The great thing about tenmarks is that is very easy to use and it allows students to work at their own pace. One way tenmarks can be use is through extension activities or if your students have access to technology at home this can be a great tool for assigning homework. Overall a great site! https://www.tenmarks.com/login
Here is a list of essential questions that can be used to plan around. For example in previous years I used the essential question, Are human beings inheretly evil? This lead to a unit on World War II and the book Lord of the Flies.
READLISTS: This website is one of my favorite websites that I have come upon. If you have an article and would like to add it to other articles for students to read it, this is the site for you. The great thing is that you can then aggregate all of these articles together into an ebook that students can download and use as a resource for research.
http://readlists.com/new/ STORYBIRD: Storybird is a website that can be access from any web browser. Teachers need to create a class in order for students to participate fully. Once students sign up the website allows students to create stories based on drawings they have chosen. The advantage is that can create a story, sequence, setting, conflict, characters without knowing how to draw. I find this is a great way to get students writing when they are stuck! https://storybird.com/teachers/
