1. Can a new dog learn old tricks?
After taking on this challenge I was able to realize that learning is always possible if we are consistent and look into what drives us. In the end the drive matters more than the objective and the goal. 2. What is the best way of learning how to play this song? (Youtube, Mr. Diaz our music teacher) For me I came to realization that just as my students the best way to learn this song was through youtube. I realize that not all youtube channels are created equally and part of the learning is to investigate which videos give you the most bang for your buck. 3. Can I actually accomplish this in 5 weeks? I know if I would of been more constant, week 3 really challenged me, I would of been able to master this song more than I did. Having said that I was happy to report I felt that I actually learned the song!! 4. How much time do I need to put into every week in order to do this and be successful? I realize that it wasn't about the time but about the consistency. The more I practice, even if I only practiced some time that would help me advance in my learning. 5. Can I get some of my students to help me since I know some are very muscially inclined? Unfortunately this question was never answered because we were out for the summer but I hope to continue to answer this question during the year. 6. What will be different this time around?, since this I have tried to this in the past and I have't been successful. The difference is that I took a song that I loved instead of going into a book to learn songs that I didn't love to care about. 7. Do I need to spend any money or do I have everything to start? I didn't have to spend any money, I had all my equipment. 8. Can I learn this song through Rocksmith? Since I went acoustic I couldn't learn this with Rocksmith but I think as I progress I can start using this program.

For this week I will not be posting a video since I have come to find out that every time I post a video I tend to rest on my laurels. I have made a lot of progress in terms of understanding the chord sequence and I feel i could play the entire song if I just follow that chord sequence but that's just the half of it according to the videos I have used to learn this. The second part is getting the strumming down, I have made some progress toward this but like the videos say this is the most difficult part of playing this particular song. I think my next step is to go back and look at some website that have a visual on how to do this and use those to learn the strumming because as much as I watch the three videos I use to learn the song I get very lost in the strumming.
Down, Down, Down, Up, Down, Up Down, seems like I am playing an old school nintendo game and I want extra lives. But I digress, after these few weeks I have found that I'm very proud of the little progress I have made because I do feel confident I will be able to play some version of this song by next week which I would of never imagined.
So what did I get myself into???? I mean I can't wait to learn the song but I am so impatient. The funny thing is that I love music and I've always wanted to be musically inclined but I have discovered that I am not. Well honestly, I think I give up too easily on these types of things. For this one project I'm going to give it my all and really try to learn the song. At this point I do feel I am way behind on my learning process for this song, for some reason I have been lagging and I need to focus more or really learning the vocabulary and the chords. I feel like other people who chose to do the guitar, like we are way over our heads on this one but I am looking forward to the reward, to be able to play a song, finally. Also on another note, I began to use my XboxOne as my method of learning (bigger screen). I basically told my youtube on my phone to send the video to the Xbox and from there I watch the lesson, makes it a lot easier to see and I can continue to use my phone to record what is happening.
For my 20% project I'm working on three different topics that I want to explore but I don't know which ones to actually engaged in. My first project is a work of love that I have tried and tried previously and have never completed and that is to play one song on the guitar. Recently, I was walking through our campus when I saw a few of my 8th graders sitting outside music class jamming together. I was so impressed by their ability to play a song because this is a goal I haven't been able to accomplish for lack of commitment. My second project is something completely different and it is more work related. For this I would like to learn how to make an app. As my school is going one on one with iPads I think it would be great for me to learn to how to create an app that helps teachers with high frequency words or math facts. My third and last option so far is to learn how to paddle board. I've always wanted to try this due to the fact that as I get older I need to keep more active then what I have done. So in order to create a healthier lifestyle I would like to learn how to do this. So with that in mind I'm creating a poll and you get to pick what I do for this project.
